    Maybe it's both? Consumers are confident that they won't be spending much in the near future.

        Here's a good one:

        Whatever "consumer sentiment" means - and I have never managed to figure out exactly what it does mean - low-income groups now have a good deal less of it than high-income groups by a very great margin.
