something puzzles me about this. If German sites are out of gold why do kito, tulving and apmex have it in stock? I notice that 100oz and larger bars are greyed out on kitco web site today. Is there something about German law preventing them from buying here? Also see my posts on the Europe thread.

I follow and buy from APMEX pretty regularly. Sovereigns, 1 oz. Krugerrands, 1/2 and 1/4 American Eagles, and 1 oz. Austrian Philharmonics were all sold out. (Rarer versions of these coins were available) That's rare to see.

And I would also assume that local shops in Europe would run out of product before an internet based shop in the US would. If you were a German, and in a panic, you would first drive to the local shop(s) before surfing the net for US sites, right?

I'll admit that I occasionally read the Kitco forums. One person said that his local gold dealer shut down after a German walked in and bought everything. yeah, I know... anonymous, internet anecdotal stuff isn't the most reliable info... but in these times, I wouldn't be surprised.
