The value of gold denominated in euros has been rising in response to fears over sovereign debt levels and the exposure of European banks to bad debt. I would think that anything bad for the euro and European banks will likely continue to be good for gold denominated in euros.

I don't know the answer "based upon [your] understanding of EJ's position". ;) But this is a really good question. On the one hand, based upon its track record and who has the most influence on its policy, I think the ECB is less likely to print up a big passel of euros to fight deflationary forces than is the Fed by printing dollars. In that sense, you'd think there was more of a deflationary threat in Europe. On the other hand, the political problems with the Euro are being illustrated by this crisis, and for now, doubt over the viability of the Euro as a whole is more important than the ECB's generally hawkish line on inflation. The stengthening of the dollar and gold against the Euro is a manifestation of capital fleeing the Euro in favor of assets deemed less risky. If this gets out of hand and turns into runaway capital flight, then that would be a European 'POOM'. For the moment, we seem closer to the latter, but I hesitate to predict the outcome.

Sometimes it pays to be unsophisticated and not very glamorous. (That's a complement BTW , not an insult.)

Bought in 2007. Did not buy gold since then, only silver.

Hey, but at least he told us Iraq had WMD and helped lead the call to war. That's something, right?

Gold and silver, regularly since march 2007.
All in all, I'm up 35 %. And intend to continue buying more or less monthly.
Storage in a bank safe. When it will get really hot here, I have several other places
of storage (not at home, not a single storage).

Thanks, Ash. Guess it's all one big guessing game nowadays anyway. You're opinion was appreciated. van
