    POLL

How many iTulipers bought Gold during the recent fall of Gold from $1226

I bought physical when it fell to $1168(on way down), $1138,(way down), $1101(down), $1065(twice - on way down), $1101(twice - on way up).

Nothing after that. you can read my mind there - looks like a typical Gold bug.

The last physical I bought was in January. My next planned purchase is July, but it depends on the price at the time.

Dollar cost averaging into physical. I buy the same amount every month regardless of price. You just never now when we will be the next Greece. If the price drops, significantly, I buy more. I'm less than the 30% recommended by this site.

Re: POLL : How many ITulipers bought physcal Gold recently

I last bought physical at $820, in late 2008.

However, I have traded paper (CEF) very recently in my retirement accounts -- a very ill-advised trade, with a round-trip loss of 10%, I might add. I traded out of paper PM on January 29th, on the theory that what was good for the dollar was bad for gold. However, after watching the market's reaction to trouble in Europe for a few months, I realized I was wrong about the anti-correlation, and re-entered my paper positions on April 1st. I'm learning to give up on a bad idea, sooner.

I'm done accumulating physical PM for now. I need my non-retirement savings in cash for some near-term projects.

Re: POLL : How many ITulipers bought physcal Gold recently

Last purchase a week ago @ around $1180.

I buy every month. Unless you believe that everything will work out well... I just don't see how one can stop buying gold.

I'm under 40, so if gold drops, I'm cool with keeping it for 20-30 yrs. That's a no brainer. Looks like we reached peak production of gold almost ten years ago. Supply and demand.

But I truly believe gold will break $5,000. Thus, it's the best wealth preserve and investment, IMHO. Unlike companies and countries, it won't go bankrupt.

Recent stock market/gold behavior has confirmed my belief that gold makes sense in both deflation and inflation. Remember, it's no longer just the classic definition of money supply that's the issue here. There is one thing that really matters about fiat money right now:

                  FAITH/TRUST

Money is no longer looking like a store of value. It's merely a medium of exchange. It's a frickin hot potato - use it to get something else of value - and quickly!. Don't get me wrong, I still keep cash aside, but my goal is to convert what I don't need as fast as I earn it.

Good luck. From what I see, periods of calm are getting shorter, and periods of uncertainty/volatility are getting longer. We're approaching some sort of endgame at a faster speed now.

I last bought gold (CEF & BV) during the last sub-800 drawdown to bring me to 55% PM at the time. Since then I'm just accumulating cash; otherwise I'm 20% TIPS.

I'm like ASH, haven't bought in a long time. I began buying in 2002 based in large part on EJ's advice, bought most of mine throughout 2003 and haven't bought physical since 2006. My spreadsheet shows an average price paid of $478/ oz. I got those first 1 oz gold eagles for $340 each at a local coin shop (please forgive my gloating).

Another KOOK! (Disclosure, Ultra-Kooky myself.) I'm with gnk on this and also follow the paradigm of "price-insensitive" buying.

This is what we are witnessing, and most are still in the dark:

"There is no means of avoiding a final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as a result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved."
                            - Ludwig von Mises

I bought at 950 in october of 09 and 1116 (a couple of weeks ago) for core positions..... I like to be in the money as soon as i can, i missed the 680 in the de-leveraging as i was still contemplating my investment philosophy at the time, no regrets though.... I buy when the average range is tight which usually signals an explosive move up and kind of for-tells the price action....
