      Re: Gold @ $5,000

What is more important that Rickards mentions is the May 11th IMF meeting co-hosted by the IMF and the Swiss National Bank.

Major global financial issues and the system in general will be discussed. SDRs, Gold, Finance Reform....

The UN is nothing now. Today, it is the G20, the IMF and BIS.

I can't wait to read ET write a new piece and tell us Gold will never reach $5000. LOL

IMO, if gold ever get to 5k, it will not stay there.

              Re: Gold @ $5,000

We once had a list of posters from this board who owned gold. The posting also included how much. Are there any reliable studies in any country that could be extrapolated to suggest how many people in the world, or given country, own gold? A percentage? 20% own gold? 30% own gold? etc. Removing the banks and the governments from the picture, what percentage of the population owns what percentage of gold in the world? I'd be curious to hear if that percentage had any influence on policy decisions by policy makers...if any.

From the scant data I've bumped into while bouncing bout the Internet, I don't get the impression that there's a ton of private individual holders out there. If ya skim off the top 1% of the wealthiest folks, would the amount of gold owned by the general population seem minimal?

Any reliable data base that breaks these figures down? I'm guessing probably not cuz the amount would be so small that policy wonks wouldn't have to worry about that variable? van

Almost nobody I know in the states owns it.
Almost everybody I know in Thailand owns some.
