The European Union has declared travelling a human right, and is launching a scheme to subsidize vacations with taxpayers' dollars for those too poor to afford their own trips

    thoughts

    1) another one of these moral relativism concepts of what is a human right

    2) you earn a vacation (car, house, luxuries, and other things) through hard work, not just to be given away

    3) this will give ideas to US politicians, which can not turn out good

    4) is having hot women pro create with you going to be a human right in the future?

    5) Mr. Tajani wants to ensure people's "right to be tourists" remains intact. - what? huh???

    6) EU and its taxpayers are slated to fund 30% of the cost of these tours, which could range from youth exploring abandoned factories and power plants in Manchester to retirees taking discount trips to Madrid, all in the name of cultural appreciation. - yes abandoned factories, the real cost of globalization and race to the bottom

There are some tens of thousands of slaves in Europe right now, and the agenda for their politicians dares to even mention "human rights" and "tourism" in the same line item?

This is about subsidise abroad holidays so I suppose the goal is integration beetwen EU states as well. During communism this was normal that goverment was allwoing poor people to have thier holiday some people still remember it. (there was special found in most of working places for it)

In EU you got tax on food(VAT) so they limit you ability to buy good food on the other side.

They had got big debate some time ago in parlament how to limit meat aviability for people (limit eating meat by people in EU). It is crazy. They are out of control.

The sooner the EU collapses the better. It really is amazing - the entity has just entered into its worst "fiscal" crisis in its history and all the EU bureaucrats can think of is how to spend more (German) money on stupid things.

The Left will never run out of "rights" to declare; they will - and have - finally run out of other people's money with which to purchase said "rights".

Good one Raz. I am happy to share my 2.

1)Margaret Thatcher said it: "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."
                2) Socialism is fighting with great bravely with problems itself created (or sth like that. My English is rather poor )

                  Thank you, sandwind.

Do you remember Michael Foot, the leader of the Labour Party from 1980 to 1983? Big head of bushy white hair and large black-rimmed eyeglasses? He was what I call a NeoCommunist (similar to a Dubchek) and a passionate speaker. He led Labour to its worst defeat ever in 1983 and I'll never forget watching the "Prime Minister's Question and Answer Sessions" on C-Span where he took on Margaret Thatcher.

He ranted and screamed that the Tories had promised great prosperity to the nation and he demanded to know "... when the British people will live as well as the Germans?"
Mrs. Thatcher replied: "When the British people learn to work like the Germans!" She also said that the honorable gentleman and those of his persuasion spoke endlessly of the plight of the poor yet offered policies that had only kept them in that condition, and that he had no love for the poor, he simply hated the rich.

I'm probably too consevative to be a Thatcherite, but I believe the "gentlelady" hit the bullseye with Michael Foot.

Their power comes from keeping them poor and creating information asymmetries in the minds of 'voters'.

That is an amazing and brilliant little example.

It is amazing to think today how utterly decimated Germany was compared to Britain after WWII. For the Germans to have accomplished what they did in such a short space of time that they left Britain (and the rest of Europe) in the dust was perhaps the greatest economic miracle of the 20th century.

The architect of that miracle was Ludwig Erhard. The post war German miracle should be compulsory subject of study in economics.

I'll never forget reading about the meeting between the Allied Powers (Britain, France and the United States) and the Adenauer government in 1949 when West Germany was brought into being. Erhard was the Economics Minister and he told the Anglo-American ministers of the BiZone that there was no substitute for sound money.
"Give us hardship, give us depression, give us anything except inflation", said Erhard. "When the Mark is strong men plant oak trees, but when the Mark is weak they will only plant cabbages!"

Ponder those wise words while observing the arrogant, mendacious little fools who run the present government of the United States.

Had Bernanke and Greenspan got hold of the German economy, they might have concluded that the country was poor (in 1949) due to "lack of spending" (savings are a curse) - so the key was allow people to borrow money (from British bankers) so that they could blow it on goods manufactured in England.
