  • What are the best "Green Investments"

    ????

I like to put a portion of my money into companies or funds that have Green energy products. Any advise?

Re: What are the best "Green Investments"

Fed ex and Google both have installed solar panels to make their buildings energy efficient or even energy positive (rolls back the meter).

ADM is archer daniels midland, the current leader in ethanol biofuel, a lot of speculation in there though.

Toyota is the worlds #1 hybrid car producer.

General Electric is one of the worlds leaders in solar panel tech. However....

SPWR, SunPower Co. is I believe the world's best solar panel maker. If you would like to buy stock remember these caveats:

solar is heavily subsidized with tax breaks by the homeowner/business owner
    solar is still very expensive
there are new solar companies and techs coming out all the time (narrow moat)
SPWR's trailing p/e is currently 147, and there is a lot of optimism as it's forward expected p/e is 28.

There is also a movement of "socially responsible investing." For example a staple of this is the Vanguard Social Index Fund (VFTSX). Also ethical funds, you can just google green funds, etc. etc. One might make an argument for Whole Foods (WFMI) as a "green" investment.

The question you are asking is quite broad, so I hope I'm at least pointing you in the right direction.

Incidentally, and maybe this is just me, but the only "green" i care about in my investments is the amount of green numbers that are in my accounts (hence my holding of stocks related to smoking, gambling, and oil industry hehe).

The World Resources Institute is doing good research in capital markets, teaming up with company analysts on Wall Street. Detailed reports are available on their website.

Thanks for the info. I trade power and natural gas for a living and my boss wanted me to do some research for him about "green funds."

I agree with you, the only green I care about is money.
