  • Health Reform Bill to extend Medicare...how?

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/AP-Sou...8&asset=&ccode=

This caught my eye: the 'health reform' bill will extend the life of Medicare.

Huh? Given that $500B is being taken out to close the 'donut hole' and to push down eligibility to 50?

    http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/news...-medicare.html

Notice the title? The senior groups in question? The AARP - that front for the insurance companies.

    But buried waaaaay down low:

But the proposal would also impose $132 billion in program reductions, including an additional $16 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage plans, which allow people to use their benefits to buy coverage from a private insurer.

The plans provide supplemental benefits not available with traditional Medicare, such as gym membership, vision and dental care, or lower out-of-pocket costs, but they cost the government 14 percent more per person on average than traditional Medicare.
There you go. There really isn't perpetual motion possible even in government.

The 'health reform' bill was at least in part an excuse to chop bits off Medicare.

Were those bits worthy of chopping?

I leave that for others to determine...
