  • Coffee Party -- counterpoint to the Tea Party

For those of us complaining that the political movements on either side are too polarized -- the boiling point may be near.

Welcome to the Coffee Party! FYI, I hope to attend an initial organizer in Herndon on Sunday. I'll report back details.

        This isn't partisan?

If it's an attempt to have a honest both-sides-of-the-table discussion about current political issues -- possibly leading to a third party, I'm interested.

If it's the liberal/democratic counter to the Tea Party, I'm not. Will report back and let you know.

Note: I don't support the Tea Party guys either....

Whether it intends to be a partisan answer to the Tea Partiers or not, that's what it will end up being. They seem to be fairly clear that the Coffee Party doesn't see government as the enemy.

Seeing as how the Tea Party sees the government as the enemy (except for the government services they like of course) I don't see how it can end up anything else.

Do you think the government is part of the problem or part of the solution? That seems to be the key question.

I had a hard time getting through that article due to all the coffee references. I think the coffee party will "cream" the tea party.

Indeed. Government is a structure or basic framework in my opinion. Too much of it and there is needless burden; too little and there is no shelter from natural disaster (literally and figuratively). The balance should always tend towards less government, however, because that errs on the side of liberty vice aggression.

Considering that the "P" word ("progressive") was used to describe themselves, they look like garden-variety socialists who are trying desperately to make themselves seem relevant in an environment where socialism is in slow-motion collapse.
