  • lower state revenues = higher unemployment

5 reasons why I have been shorting the market for the last two weeks
    1. lower state revenues - Phoenix has emposed a 2% grocery tax
    2. 5 million out of 50 million mortgage holders under water- means more foreclosures - means less state revenue- means more layoffs (gov't)
    3. sovereign debt issues
    4. 2 trillion in short term US debt must roll over this year
    5. China cut backs - means weaker commodity prices
go to King World NEWS and listen to interview with John Williams

ways to play the market for the next couple of weeks (or until corrrection is over) use Short ETFs - SH MYY RWM
and use UUP while euro is in trouble
I hope some of you find this useful. By nature I am fiscally conservative -I have silver bullion - tons (literally) of food for my family - I recently (nevered owned one before) bought guns and ammo - have stuff to barter with - cases of toilet paper + booze - house paid 4 - skeptic - paying utilities and phone and internet and taxes 1 year in advanced - have neurolgical disease so typing difficult - I like itulipers - 1st time posting

Welcome to Itulip, thanks for posting.

Why short right now? These trends have been going on for quite a while and yet the market has been up over the last year. Not disagreeing with you, just curious about the timing.

        as pedicted

From CNNMoney: States to Senate: Send more federal aid
States are looking to the federal government for more help balancing their budgets, but the Senate is not heeding their call. ...

States are looking at a total budget gap of $180 billion for fiscal 2011, which for most of them begins July 1. These cuts could lead to a loss of 900,000 jobs, according to Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Economy.com.

To close this gap, governors and lawmakers will be forced to lay off state employees, cut services and postpone capital projects ...
Already, states laid off 44,000 workers in the 12 months ending in January, according to federal labor statistics.
If Zandi is correct the vast majority of state layoffs are still to come
