Re: This is it Kids, Gold in the danger zone!

The problem I see is with price discovery -- if there is much divergence between paper and physical. Currently everybody is still reliant for price discovery on paper gold.

Gold should go lower. While few things are certain most decisions are best made based on probability. The attached file is a study of the US Dollar Index by ChartWorks of Institutional Advisors. Ross Clark shows that since the 1980s every time but one that the Dollar Index (DX) closed above its 55 week Exponential Moving Average it continued to rise to its upper 50 week Bollinger Band. That algorithim is currently at 87.10 and falling approximately .30/week. Thus the odds are high that the US Dollar will continue its upmove to the tune of another 5% to 6%. IF so, then Gold should trade sideways to lower eventually testing the $1,000 level or thereabouts. My downside target range is shown on the chart as $986 - 1022. I would NOT want to see a weekly close below $989 basis the April Gold.

          Oh yeah, POOOOOOOOOOOM.

You might want to wait this one out (see my post to metal below). If the trajectory is similar to Argentina, we are really REALLY close to a sudden stop event. Don't think I'd be very happy about unloading my insurance on the cheap, only to not have it available when I really needed it during a POOM event.

Just My humble 1 ounce of advice.
Is it just me or is this possibly the most insightful post of 2010?! Re-read the Argentina article! jtabeb may have hit the nail on the head with this one. If so, the final Ka may be currently setting for the infamous Poom.

This is a good dip for buying gold; just wish I could afford it- especially from Tulving. For those of us who can't afford gold, what do you guys think of silver? Speaking of physical only, not paper.

Right now, the GSR is 1:70.59. Silver seems like a bargain, but it's sooooo unstable.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I am buying more silver this week. Physical. 100oz bars. Ignore the freshly turned dirt in my backyard...nothing to see there...keep moving.

Yesterday I checked with my uncle (in India) who is seeing gold market for more than 20 years......the difference between spot gold & future gold is about 2% at the moment......you can buy gold in future market at Rs. 16200 for 10 grams and in spot market slightly higher than Rs 16500 for 10 grams....the reason he sighted was there is shortage of gold in the spot market......

Re: This is it Kids, Gold in the danger zone!

Here is another opinion. It seems to me that we have now reached Stage 2 of the financial crises which will lead to the Greater Depression. The Euro zone will eventually implode as the German populance refuse bailouts and riots etc spread from Greece to Spain etc. Government debt is now becoming the real economic issue and will only get worse as the deflation risk advances and money is printed to counteract this.

Gold and some commodities look like the only solution to wealth protection.

                    Here is the article:-

                      Posted on Zero hedge

Bank of England/New york gold manipulation
The Bank of England depleted its open-market portfolio by secretly sterilizing large gold inflows. Thereafter interest rates were influenced by manipulating reported gold flows.... A gold flow falsification was over two-thirds as effective as an open-market operation.

                        Itulipers,

I bumped this thread because right around Feb. 12, 2010, Silver and SEVERAL stocks started a long, steady bull run.

                        What happened?

hmm it is interesting, the pattern has been non-us crisis, dollar up, gold down. not this time. I always thought it was a curious pattern. why when problems in currency regimes does gold move down? Like the US is immune? I assume the move up is from the euro problems. I just see these foreign affairs as a harbinger of things to come here.
I have always used the pull backs to buy. We will see if all goes back to normal in the next several weeks. Talk is really swirling about an IMF, new EU deal for greece.

                          maybe things have changed.

Definitely a macro trend. Only thing I can find is the olympics in Vancouver happened around this time.
