Of course, in Iran they speak farsi, which is a very different language from arabic. In fact, farsi is indoeuropean.

What is true is that Iran has probably, and I know that this might be difficult to believe, the finest poetic tradition on earth. Iranians actually love poetry. They have geniuses like Hafez, Rumi, Sa'adi, and perhaps today Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

    I'm sure he meant Persian.

Rhetoric is important in many cultures, and there is always a danger of taking a translation as literal.

A lot of the misunderstandings with such announcements are due to the poetic nature of the Arabic language.

Considering the "announcement" of Patriots into the Gulf. I am guessing a medium range missile test reaching the Arabian sea.

Quite true, a typo on my part.

It could probably be argued that the poetic nature of Islamic writings were greatly influenced by the very early incorporation of Persia into the Muslim world. I've spent a fair amount of time pondering this, thus the confusion in my mind I guess...

Not very entertaining when you've got a 17 year old son almost out of high school and military recruiters knocking at the door. I'll support him in whatever he decides to do, but I'd much rather have my son than a flag and a picture.

I was in that position 7 years ago: 2003. My nephew and son are only 19 days apart so when my nephew declared his intention to join the Marines my son really, really wanted to sign up with him. I am a long-standing military officer so I had mixed feelings. My strategy was to convince my son to go to college first, apply to ROTC, and plan on entering the military AFTER college as an officer. Meanwhile my nephew entered the Marines in August 04 and got to Fallujah in time to see 40 percent of his infantry company get killed or wounded beyond the ability to return to duty. I think he said they had 26 fatalities out of 140 guys. He used to play computer war games all day and night in high school. Now he is a very quiet, sober student at the local community college, getting trained as a firefighter. Meanwhile, my son has his engineering degree and a decent starter job. He gave up on the ROTC route after getting beaten down by all the paperwork. On the other hand, I am in the process of transferring from the IRR back into the active reserve to get a couple more 'good' years toward retirement.

piece in the wall street journal yesterday about iran self enriching to 20%.
Don't know what that means? Is that weapons ready? Is it dirty bomb ready?

20% is useful in medical/scientific reactors to make isotopes for various uses. Weapons require 90% but 20% is a major step and well on the road to 90%.

Assuming that Iran really intends to make its own medical isotopes, various nations are getting in line to offer isotopes to Iran so they don't need to go to 20%.
