Does that make him an unsophisticated dope?

(No one is always right - except for me when I'm arguing with my wife.)

Huh? EJ called an end to the first bounce much earlier as I recall (july?). He recognized the error and changed the date, but let's not whitewash history here....

Cheh-shaped recovery -- actually, the call was mid-June!

The cheh shaped recovery – Part II: Yield curve says what?

          ZIRP hell for debtors
          First Bounce is over
          Entering the high volatility zone

If you will go back and reread not only my post but several that preceded it you will understand that I was not bashing your hero.

HOWEVER, I distinctly remember either EJ or FRED saying that they added to their shorts of financial stocks not long at all after the impulse move to the upside on March 10th, 2009.

I've just spent about twenty minutes looking for it and I plan to continue until (1) I find it, or (2) begin to wonder if it has been removed, or (3) am forced to believe that my wife is correct in her assessment that I've lost my memory and much of my mind.

I did find posts that I made soon after that upside impulse day of March 10th, 2009.

In answer to your question: I notice a lot of things. I noticed an apology from EJ for missing a 60% move in the S&P 500 without having a penny invested in oil stocks or any other equities. He's a big boy who doesn't need defending - especially when he's not being trashed.

Just remind her you were smart enough marry here, and still smart enough to stay married to her. You haven't lost it all yet.

I could have sworn I read some Gold bear pieces from John in the late 80s and early 90s in some Canadian business magazines.

They were obscure magazines and it looks like they never made it to the the interwebz.

Well, if gold was great at 1100, it's even better now!

Hey Largo, phirang's a professional trader; that is, he makes his living from trading. Few are able to achieve that.

But, the point is, phirang may possibly have no long term investments. Trading and investing are completely different.

                            I don't have a subscription to iTulip.

This bounce today was totally predictable: I even bought some gold miners towards the close yday.

That said, the trend of the dollar remains UP. If you think gold crashed hard, wait till you see oil and copper get nailed!

Really well put Raz. Very eloquent.

I agree - this isn't Nazi Germany where the regime's message needs to be reinforced by the SS and the Gestapo. Sometimes Metalman is too cartoonish to even deserve a reply.

I have high regard for EJ but he has often been wrong - nothing wrong with that (even Barnard Baruch said one could be wrong 6 times out of 10 and still amass a fortune). However, one doesn't need to raise EJ to the level of a financial demigod for him to be taken seriously.

All forums thrive on dissent and we have plenty here - which makes this place great. We don't need dedicated drumbeating cheerleaders for the house pummelling the opposition. I wonder if even EJ often gets embarrassed by the Metalman's cartoonish toeing of the party line.
