I believe the total operating budget of CA is now about 85 billion,so there is a small question as to how this is going to be financed.

With all of Californian's fiscal troubles it is still the greatest engine of true wealth creation (not pyramid schemes) on planet earth over the last 20 years and leads the country in ideas.

It would make sense for California to lead the way in both health care and energy.

Progress takes courage. Excatly why modern republicans that block anything unless it has to do with military waste spending are cowards.

50% + of American's tax dollars go in some sense to military and "security" while the country falls apart - ever heard of the U.S.S.R - damm good military and "secuirty' force - sure helped the U.S.S.R. did it not?

If you dump 80% of current military spending then we could provide free health care nd free education to all Americans. Easy!

and the pentagon retards will still have enough firepower to play blow up the world.

You certainly understand that the warfare state destroys an economy but have somehow deluded yourself into thinking the welfare state does not. They are two separate roads to the same economic ruin. CA passing this when it's already on the precipice of default is simply fiscal suicide.

Be interesting to see what would transpire if a state created an efficient, inexpensive, and all encompassing health care program. Would more people come to California to participate in its health care program? More industry?

And if it were successful would the next step be to create a state bank like that in North Dakota that runs efficiently and plops profits into state coffers?

California runs an efficient mortgage program. I've used CalVet before and was very pleased with it.

I look forward to seeing how this plays out. Perhaps we need to see "single payer" in action to really know the results. I have grave doubts it would succeed, but wish them luck.

How would this differ from the Massachusetts plan?
