  • Big day for iTulipers

Looks like someone in Washington is listening to us and bringing some rationalization to the FIRE economy.

Hopefully we will give some credit where credit is due.

Good news. Except for the part where Republicans present a unified front agains the changes, Obama expresses "surprise" that no one from the other party was willing to be 'bi-partisan' and the Dems meekly capitulate.

Republicans can't fight it .. it'd be a political disaster for them, and Obama knows it.

However, if Obama really does this he's probably screwed. He gets a lot of backing from the Oligarchies.

While the "throw the bums out" mentality is a change in the right direction, the Republicans are just the same bunch of hacks warmed over. All of a sudden, they are "fiscally responsible." I laugh every time I hear this. They've been borrow and spend going back to the time of Reagan. Make no mistake. The party is still run by the same bunch of neocons and religious hacks as were in charge during Bush II. Of course, our herd of Obama fawning Democrats are not any better. Half of them have been bought off by the banking cartel while too many of the others have to be pried from the tree they're hugging to go and vote for an increase on the debt ceiling.

Both points are possibly true. But I'll believe the first when I see it. And I think the second could be offset if Obama were to adopt more populist rhetoric across the board. So far though he's not been willing to do that.

Will be interesting to see how long he tries to hang onto the mantle of bipartisan peacemaker as his teeth get kicked out one by one and his options dwindle.

Not sure if it really does any good anymore (letters to congress were reputedly 100:1 opposed to TARP and look how far that got us), but if American iTulipers agree with the president's proposal they should be urging their congressional reps to support it.

"The hand that feeds" be damned - those hands don't feed losing candidates. Re-elections are at stake and congress knows it. Let them know you'll be judging their performance.

Obama calls the market bottom on March 6 and the market top on January 21. Do we really HAVE a market? I think not.

I think both parties will be hesitant to take on the financial oligarchs. Hopefully Obama will get tough on this. If he doesn't get the legislation he should make clear that next time there will be no next time when it comes to bailouts.

If "Obama knows it" then why did it take so long to position the chess pieces to put the Republicans into check?

The more I listen to the analysis and news about the latest bank related pronouncements coming from the White House, the more convinced I am that this is just the latest reaction to events.

They're still not leading, just reacting...

Yep, sounds to me like Obama had this up his sleeve in case his girl in Mass didn't win. Putting limits on banks is a populist move right now. It's the move of a desperate President on the ropes. Makes political sense. Reignites the popular support while we all know the barn door is being closed AFTER the horses have gone. Bankers won't turn on Obama. They'll invite him to parties on the Yachts they bought with his bailout money. They knew the grift couldn't go on forever. Pretty shrewd political move. Could very well save the Democratic party. Now excuse me while I go throw up.
