My wife works for WorldVision which has offices there. The reports coming back sound very bad.

From what I heard Haiti was a difficult country to work in before -- an environmental disaster, dirt poor, corrupt, you name it. Got to be a living hell now.

Former Republican presidential candidate clearly expresses the current GOP christiano-fascist party view.

Pat Robertson says Haiti made a "pact with the Devil"

Robertson is notorious for such comments. I used to live in the Virginia Beach area -- we had CBN *and* PETA headquarters -- how's *that* for making some dysfunctional places to live!

Anyways, I remember when apparently God told Robertson to run for President. Maybe God was trying to show the rest of us what a damn fool Robertson was.....

There was the time he "prayed away" a hurricane from the Hampton Roads area. Hit elsewhere, must have been some den of sinners....

          Many, *many* more......

You've stated your opinion as a fact. Facts can be supported by data. Please back up your statement with proof. If by "current" you mean "majority", I think you're dead wrong. I know NO Republicans who agree with Robertson's statement. I know NO Christians who agree with Robertson's statement. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but they don't speak for all Republicans or Christians, only for themselves. I don't know what the hell you mean by "christiano-fascist". Do you even understand what fascism is???

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Wow, Shiny. You take your party membership quite seriously. That is not often seen around here.

He may or may not. However, the idea that he will burn in hell is nice and keeps the peeps from demanding justice now. If I had the "Oligarchy Approved" stamp, it would go right over that statement.

                      Re: Haiti Earthquake Coverage

                      OK, Here is the deal:

Haiti was the first Caribbean colony to become independent. Because of that they became a pariah among the colonial powers, the European powers not wanting Haiti to influence the other islands in the West Indies. In the early 1800's, Haiti was socially and economically isolated.

Being isolated, they lost some of the counter balancing force the French Catholic Church had on the the society. Haitian dictators, up to and including "Papa Doc", used voodoo as a tool to control and intimidate the masses. Papa Doc would routinely dress as a voodoo god to strengthen his image. Voodoo, was, in essence, the state religion designed to be used as a tool of the state to oppress the masses. Again, being isolated there was no countervailing force against the ruling class.

Haiti is a classic example of a society losing the counter balance of a strong and ethical priest class holding back the abuses of the elites. The secret police under the Duvalier's, the Ton Ton Macoutes, did some of the best work at night posing as voodoo demons. A pact with the devil? hardly. More like a thuggish group of elites using superstition to destroy their own society.

                          Re: Haiti Earthquake Coverage

You're welcome. I did a quick search to remind myself of some of the details and I saw that in the last decade of the 1700's a group of Haitian freedom fighters pledged themselves to a Voodoo priestess or deity. Something along those lines. I suppose it is from that story, it is easy to extrapolate the entire society being cursed. Is it true? Well, as Yoda might have said, "If you believe it true, that is why you fail"

Actually, I'm neither a Republican nor a Christian; I'm a Sikh. I lean more towards the Libertarian party (but I'm really a Browncoat!). I love my Country and Consitution, and despise what the Republocrat parties have done to my country.

I make a distinction between Republican party politics and people who are Republicans. While I don't respect the Republican party (for a party that espouses small government and fiscal responsibility, they're a bunch of hypocrites), I do respect a lot of people who consider themselves Republicans. I know them to be polite and kind, responsible and hardworking, quietly generous and charitable. They do not go stomping around filled with hate, spewing hate speech.

Case in point, a Special Ed. teacher my husband works with. He and his wife (another teacher) have adopted 12 special-needs children over the years... autistic, mentally retarded, emotionally disturbed... taking them out of foster care and giving each of them a permanent loving home. They lost their house through foreclosure last year. No government bailout for them. They are conservative Christians, NRA members, and vote Republican. When I hear anybody calling people like that fascists, or whatever, it just makes my blood boil!

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
