There could be MANY reasons for this fella's death.......surely it could be US/Israeli if he was up to his elbows in Iran's WMD development.
Or he could be deeply involved in the recent anti-government protests that seem to be educated middle class university-centric.
So maybe he was offed by Revolutionary Guards, Quds, the successor to SAVAK, etc. with a finger pointed conveniently towards the satans.

There is, of course, no public evidence it was Israel/Mossad. But given the Europeans, USA and the UN have demonstrated over several years they are powerless to alter Iran's activity, Israel's options would appear limited, but pre-emptive "terrorism" is one of them.

In light of past Israeli efforts to disrupt the Iraqi nuclear program with the assassination of folks like Yehia al-Meshad, sabotage to critical Tammuz reactor components in France, and the Tammuz/Osirak Raid, I think it would be safe to say that Iran would endeavour to match the operational security of it's decentralized nuclear program with robust personal security for it's key nuclear program personnel.
And while France is a non-permissive environment in attempting to conduct an assassination, Iran would surely be a far more challenging environment to conduct any James Bond/Jason Bourne wannabe stuff.
Superficially, I'd be thinking this guy's nuclear education may not be as important as his political motivation.
