I'd like to point out that the search link in the OP seems to exclude credit unions.

The Bankrate link below has been mentioned before - it allows one to search credit unions as well:

Way too simplistic.

Seen it tried in schools and other instituions.....A purge.

Result: Chaos, incompetence, and corruption rein for the next decade

until the rookies become seasoned.

Have you seen the results lately that we've had in the U.S. with our group of uncorrupted "seasoned veteran" politicians?

P.S. It is a disaster.

We've had the same incompetents in the Congress for DECADES and they are the main reason we are in the current mess. Congress is a ruling class who never has to live with the overly complicated rules, regulations and laws they pass. 99% of Congress consists of career politicians who only want to get re-elected and whose only interest is in gaining more power. The long term good of the nation? Keep dreaming.

What we need is a citizen legislature whose only loyalty lies with following and enforcing the Constitution, not fallaciously interpreting it for the benefit of big government and corporate handouts. Had we done that for the past 100 years, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

We need simplicity and not 3,000 page bills that destroy the country and are passed without a single member of Congress knowing what is actually in the bill. All they know is what lobbyists from Humana tell them. These are some solid veterans we have on the hill in Congress, let me tell you.

In other words, I totally disagree with your chaos theory.

(Over at Wells, which was “just” a $600 billion bank until it bought Wachovia, they must be wondering if it was worth the headache.) She suggests community savings banks here; Salmon suggests credit unions here; Uncle Billy also suggests credit unions here.

Note: RDC or Remote Deposit Capture - the ability to deposit checks into one's bank account from home or office without having to actually deliver the check to the bank.

ICBA - a plethora of info here that allows one to establish a good basis as to the pulse of the small bank industry.

Use the link below to help finding a good bank. Problem is you cannot search by the troubled asset ratio, but a few looks usually can find a good bank pretty fast. The site also shows whether or not the bank accepted TARP money. I moved 90% of my money from Chase to a local credit union. It also has the national median of troubled assets for all banks,
and guess what? This number is still pointing up. The problem as all i-tulipers are aware is still growing.

Chase has a very strong hold on ATM's and branches in my area.
I only have a savings account with them and only enough money for an emergency ATM withdrawl.

I do have a chase cc. only because they pay me 5% back on gas and groceries. This adds up to several hundred dollars a year back. I know I'm dacing with the devil. If they ever revoke this program my chase
card will be headed for the trash fast.

The Congressional Reform Act posits 12 years of total service (6 2-year House terms; 2 6-year Senate terms), so there wouldn't be "a fresh stream of rookies".

I like spending limits better than term limits. In particular, I like what's been done in Canada at the federal level (and at the provincial level in some provinces) where corporate and union donations to election campaigns are banned, and no individual can donate more than a certain amount per campaign. That forces candidates to actually appeal to a broad base of supporters rather than one or two interest groups with deep pockets, while allowing a genuinely dedicated politician to continue running as long as he or she desires.

Richard Branson is way out ahead on this. He is in the process of opening "Virgin Bank" in the UK and then the USA.
