The ultimate wisdom that is the American political system with its international partners has almost finished the International Space Station at tremendous cost so that microgravity experiments can be conducted economically. With all the investment, what next? Well, abandon it, of course. Privatize it by selling it off to some corporation who will operate it oh, so much more efficiently than Nasa ever could? Scientists have decided it is useless to plan experiments for a lab that will be unavailable by the time they can launch, so ... say a fond farewell not only to our economy and our environment, but to our dreams and aspirations as well.

Whats new -the GUI, Sergei Brin's search algorithm for google, the internet, cellphones, satellite TV, cable -all basically paid through the nose for by taxpayers -and then -private companies buy the tech for pennies on the dollar and sell it back to us for billions. Whoops forgot pharmaceuticals paid for through NIH research as well.

Well, of course, it was never about microgravity, but elimination of overcapacity. Most of the asinine things that occur make sense if you get this. You have to blow out overcapacity in some way, like say a giant war, while still keeping the populace happy and afraid, and in their place. Otherwise, people start to realize that there is no reason they can't be a fat cat too and society collapses in the squabble.
