    I just checked NYC's homicide stats for this year 431 YTD. Back in the day, 1991, it was somewhere around 2200 for the whole year. I hope we don't see that again.

      Unless they reinvent crack or some similar drug that catches on, we should be ok.

        Coincidence? I doubt it. Look at national crime rate charts, NYC crime rate charts, Los Angeles charts, etc.

        Total and property crime rates peaked with inflation in 1980.

          I've read serious and thouhtful social theory that attributes the drop in crime at that time to something specific completely unrelated to money, finance or economics. It implies that the phonomenon of overall lower crime may endure much longer.

            Yesss, NOW I remember.

            I also had the pleasure to live through the race riots in US. The spark need not be big, but the buildup is slow and seeming unnoticeable.

              Its not that complicated. The crime rate went down and the incarceration rate skyrocketed.
