If you work for the Gov't you are not a taxpayer - you are a taxtaker. There is only one tax pot. They are part of a closed-loop accounting system that redistributes wealth.
If taxes worked the way most people think - then we could all work for the Gov't and give ourselves nice raises every year, slowly raises our taxes, and there would be no financial crisis.

Yes. And it's an intersting situation when you think of govt jobs because of the circular reference.
So, what will the effect of these firings really have on the government revenue and expense lines (net tax taking)?
On one hand, they don't have to pay them their salary plus benefits but on the other they lose the income tax revenue and a portion of the consumption tax revenues. Also, how does that affect the income and consumption taxes of those that depend on the government employee's consumption?
Whatever that is, I bet that they're not showing what the "net savings" are correctly in the budget/propaganda.
