        Calculus:

How can losing 11,000 jobs in November be taken as positive news?

The daylight-hours in November diminished in the Northern Hemisphere, but they diminished at a lower rate of loss than they did in September. So does that mean that winter is over; summer is now just around the corner?

I am not a calculus genius, but I sure know b.s. when I see it. A loss is a loss is still a LOSS.

November is darker than September. And December is darker yet, and then winter begins..... Class dismissed.

tongue-in-cheek response pointed at the perpetual creative b.s. by TPTB. countless well meaning individuals in the trenches such as don refers to, continue to be rudely "smirked" at.

It (the white zone) will be followed by another "shadowed area" of equal or greater length in the near future.

Behind this simple double digit figure - 10 % - you'll find really 15, 4 people registered as "seeking a job", 7,9 millions more than in dec. 2007. About 2,3 millions people today are classified as "marginally linked to the working world", 376 000 more than a year ago. Among the 2,3 millions, 861 000 are said "discouraged", meaning they totally gave up with employment agencies. They were 608 000 only a year ago. The real unemployment, as calculated by the BLS is not 15,4 "only", but rather 16,3 millions, meaning a rate of 10,6 %. Without the magic of the fed government, this real figure would scare everybody"

                Re: Job loses 11,000?!

I myself have recently promoted a part-timer to full-time status in my tiny company. 0 % interest rates and printing $ 1 T can give a temporary lift. However, part of the standard methadology is to presume that small business is hiring a lot, and this esitmate has not moved down much. Also, most of the jobs added were temps, and much of the rest were government. " The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) rose by 293,000 to 5.9 million. The percentage of unemployed persons jobless for 27 weeks or more increased by 2.7 percentage points to 38.3 percent. Among the marginally attached, there were 861,000 discouraged workers in November, up from 608,000 a year earlier." As EJ says, we are in free fall, and one should not expect things to continue getting worse at rapid rate.

Couldn't the headline number be brought down if unemployment benefits were not extended?

                    Why did gold collapse?

Market knows Ben's ALWAYS behind the curve.

If we get a few months of +ive job #'s, market will aggressively price in a hike.

You wanted a buying opportunity... well, 150k+ new jobs in january WILL take gold well below 1000.
