The title on nc.com is a little disingenuous. As the bloomberg article states, it's almost impossible to get a ccw permit in nyc and nj. Nys and ct are friendlier. So maybe the folks in nys and ct can "pack" when they're around their neighborhoods. The beginning of the bloomberg article talks about writing a reference to get a permit to purchase a gun. That sounds like nj. That person will get the permit to purchase 1 handgun (per permit) in 8 wks or so. Along with it he'll get a seperate nj firearms card that would allow him to buy approved rifles/shotguns.

Bloomberg news won't give you straight facts on guns. If you've got money and connections there is no problem getting a permit in NYC. Nearly impossible is added to the story to give the illusion that the laws apply to everyone - they don't.

Is there really any doubt the CEO of a major investment bank would have to wait more than a few minutes to be granted a CCW in NYC?

Anybody with a cousin or uncle in the force knows this, and it's at minimum evidenced by their clean driving records.

The bloomberg article mentions an investment banker seeking to get a permit to purchase a gun (and not ccw), not the CEO. Then it alludes to senior people, which includes the CEO but also includes a whole slew of dime a dozen MDs and business heads.

The CEOs I know all have security details, and they've had them before the current crisis. While the idea is nice that they get a permit to "pack" themselves, they have off-duty cops and ex-cops with them all the time. I'm surprised they didn't get these permits before actually. But, to answer your last question, when it comes to the CEO: no doubt. I don't think this adds much to the conversation, it's no surprise.

With respect to the MDs and business heads (along with the worker bees), I doubt that most have the connections or justification to be issued a ccw in nyc. Most senior people live outside of the city (and a lot keep a place in the city for late nights ), hence my inclusion of ex-nyc permits. They may very well be getting them, if they can (ex-nj), or they may just be purchasing them for home defense (not ccw).

The light that the bloomberg article tries to portray is a bit disingenous, and then nc sensationalized it.

My original post was meant to show another plausible reason for them to arm themselves instead of contribute to some sort of populist paranoia propaganda. That said, I'm not saying that some of them are concerned. Even if it is only due to the crazies.

Based on what I know to get a full carry permit in New York you have to be in the security business or be in a business where you carry a lot of money. A check cashing establishment would be a good example of the latter. If you have personal security issues you can give it a try. I remember reading Howard Stern had trouble getting one. Do connections help? When do connections ever hurt? Does money help? Maybe for legal assistance to get the permit. If your referring to bribery that would just get you arrested. I'm a veteran of the NYPD. There's no better arrest then a bribery arrest. It can lead to a choice assignment. Arresting a GS executive for bribery.......oh baby!
