      Oh my goodness, we have either someone in the White House or Ben Bernanke himself posting to-day!

            8. American consumer still deleveraging

            9. Unemployment expected to be elevated for months if not years to come (U-6 is the closest metric we have to the TRUE unemployment rate; expect this to top 20% going into next year)

            10. Earnings better than expected... via costing cutting and mass layoffs

            11. Auto sales higher than expected... via "Cash for Clunkers" and rebates for golf carts (i.e. electric vehicles)

            12. Housing sales higher than expected... via generous first time home buyer credits to keep house prices from deflating further and letting market forces clean up the mess on its own like it should

            No, what we have is an unmitigated disaster. What you have to understand is that money is debt and the money supply is shrinking because everyone is deleveraging...consumers, businesses, county and city governments, Dubai, etc., etc., etc. The only thing the government can do (they think) is to borrow, borrow, borrow and print, print, print in an effort to pump more liquidity into the system in the face of declining tax revenues. The problem is that low short term interest rates in the U.S. is causing a dollar carry trade resulting in numerous new bubbles around the world. None of the central bankers have learned a thing. Or maybe they have and are too afraid to come out and say it. Either way, its a race to the bottom until we have basically destroyed the fiat money system while taking all the bad debts and everyone's savings along with it. And for those you hold gold, go Google the stories about the hundreds of thousands of 400 oz. electroplated tungsten blanks floating around disguised as the real thing.

            Welcome to Hell everyone. Please exit to the right and don't forget to collect your luggage and any loose items. And have a nice day...:rolleyes:

              1. The Treasury Secretary will state that America has a "strong Dollar" policy;
              2. The Fed will announce that inflation expectations are "well anchored";
              3. The White House will announce that the President "won't rest" until every American has a job;
              4. The US Administration will simultaneously beat China with a stick ["currency manipulator"] and praise it's virtues ["strategic trading partner"] all in the space of 24 hours;
              5. The Fed will announce that option-ARM prime mortgage defaults are "contained";
              6. Goldman Sachs will continue to do "God's work", but only for those that can afford the price of admission to their house of worship;
              7. Bob Prechter will publish another book about the coming "deflation";
              8. The Fed will hand our free copies inscribed with the slogan "No bad Bubbles, now or ever";
              9. Nouriel Roubini will claim "I told you so";
              10. Mega will set a new record for "Most exclamation marks in a single apocalyptic thread title";
              11. Later in the year it will be revealed that Goldman, using inside information, made fabulous profits shorting the equities of the same small businesses to which it was providing advice and assistance;
              12. The year will end the same way it started with the new Treasury Secretary announcing that the USA has a "strong Dollar" policy.
              That pretty well covers the economic news in America, I think...:rolleyes:

                1 ) Strong emphasis on stating it every day.
                2 ) As the dollar sinks to the bottom
                3 ) And every job pays an "above-average salary"
                4 ) I can't do better than the SNL skit...
                5 ) To the entire financial system.
                6 ) GS recommends a 10% direct tithe to them to save the trouble.
                7 ) Which will have record sales (sigh)
                8 ) Got bubble-bath?
                9 ) For the 10,000th time
                10) ROTFL
                11) This is news? ;)
                12) See #1

                  We were lucky to survive 8 years of George Bush war and impoverisnment of our deregulated nation. PS - I'm generally republican.

                  So far so Good - Go Goldman, Ben and Tim - I'm in with you for the long haul.
