        Steve,

I intended to respond to your latest idiotic and demeaning generalization with a verbose and intelligent response, but I realized I have spent too much effort and time on your misguided, ill-informed, historically-selective, closed-minded opinions, so I came up with this instead...You are an asshole.

This site is an incredible array of intelligent and insightful participants and I can no longer have you ruin the experience for me. Consider yourself censured, muted, and ignored.

        I'm convinced it's performance art.

The U.S. also has trillions in assets, including the federal lands in the Western states. There are ways to keep the faith going. Plus the U.S. has the H-bomb, so for the forseeable future 2 + 2 = 229.635 if the Federal Reserve says so.

            Dear Steve,
So...tell me about this power of faith and the American South with its exclamation-pointed zombies with apparently zero intellect who allegedly created fiat currency all by itself. And how you know that. Thanks.

This is already being done locally.
City of Chicago has leased, the Chicago skyway (bridge connecting Chicago to Indiana), downtown parking meters, midway airport. They are now talking about leasing the water system!

I feel like this city is a patron of a payday loan store.

FALSE - USA IS NOT BUST

WHY: USA HAS ASSETS TO SELL
                  - National parks
                  - Oil fields
                  - State assets
                  - State Business could be listed on stock exchange and sold
                  - Lease out fishing rights within 200 mile ocean zone
                  - Rent out NASA
                  - Lease your Aircraft Carriers as holiday ships
                  - etc

In the 1980s, we had the same situation in New Zealand, to pay off the Govt debt every thing was sold, or IPOed.. that same that Russia did etc..

USA is not bust, just a little insolvent...
What about the opportunity for plunder? I'm still very much confused as to why the war in Iraq has cost the US any money at all.

Because it is plunder from the US Treasury. Not very different from the Bank Bailouts, except that it is the defence industry and the defence service industry (e.g Kellog & Root aka Halliburton)

Remember that in the US Taxes are a bad word -- thus we rob the 90% to pay the top 1% through inflation and lowered real wages.

I am sad to hear that Rajiv, as I deeply wish someone like you would provide input and comments on the "select" pages.

If I may ask, since when are you without a full membership?

Hopefully that is temporary, if not I am starting a fundraiser: "Rajiv for Membership"!

Maybe it is time to tick a few people off in America. So I ask,
How did we get into this economic mess? And the answer to me was faith-based economics, also known as supply-side economics or Reaganomics and formerly called, "voo-doo economics".

What am I talking about? And the answer is the politics of: "Deficits don't count," (Phil Gramm) . "We can grow our way out of deficits," (Arthur Laffer) "Deficits are only relative to the size of the economy," (Ronald Reagan and Arthur Laffer and even Robert Reich). "We need consumption to grow," (Ronald Reagan) . "A consumer-led recovery," (Alan Greenspan). "Interest rates are too high and inhibit growth," (Greenspan). "The world needs America to consume its products," (Bush Jr.) . "No new taxes," (Ronald Reagan). "Tax and spend liberals," (Ronald Reagan). "America is the engine of growth," (Reagan and Bush), "I still have faith in the American economy to grow," (Larry Kudlow). "Freedom is not free," ( the mantra of the neo-cons in the Republican Party) which has meant endless wars and deficits for decades. "Deficits only mean we owe ourselves,".... "in the end, we are all dead," (John Maynard Keynes). "America always comes back stronger than ever," (Warren Buffet and Larry Kudlow). "Get government off our backs, and turn our economy loose," (Ronald Reagan). "It's time to put government on a diet," (Ronald Reagan and Howard Jarvis during the passage of Prop. 13). "The prosperity will trickle-down to everyone," (Richard Nixon). "Some inflation is healthy for the economy," (Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke). "Markets self-regulate," (Alan Greenspan). "One nation under God," (the mantra of the GOP). "We need a strong defence," (Ronald Reagan). "We need to trust the free enterprise system," ( Larry Kudlow ). And who could forget: "We have the best healthcare system in the world," (Bush Jr. and his fellow Republicans in the U.S. Senate now)?

I see that Starving Steve has responded/posted, but I can't see the content since I have placed him on my ignore list. Outstanding! This Thanksgiving I am most thankful to the iTulip staff for the "ignore" feature.

Well rjwjr, you haven't missed a thing - except perhaps an increase in peptic distress.

It's the same old, same old: a long list of snipets blaming everything from the biblical plagues to the current depression on the Republicans - mostly that evil Reagan.

You would think that there have been no Democrats in our government for the past 40 years if you listened to this tripe.
(And they controlled the power of the purse for 30 of those 40 years.)

Yes, the Democrats also have been to blame for this mess. For example: Bill Clinton and Robert Rubin for letting the Glass-Stiegal Act be repealed. That then allowed banks to invest or pass money to the gang on Wall Street, and it allowed Wall Street companies (like Goldman Sachs) to become banks.

Jimmy Carter's policies also helped to make this economic mess. For example, Carter helped to kill nuclear power in the U.S, and he let the EPA in Washington run wild with regulation against mining, energy production, and manufacturing.

Yes, Raz, you have made a fair comment: Both parties are to blame for this economic mess in the U.S.A.

We certainly do have faith. It's the most important thing in my life. But I have not met any of those zombies, you will have to tell me where you found them
