  • Britain Goes for the Nuclear Option-Starving Steve will be pleased!

The present government has been moving this way for some time despite being against nuclear when in opposition. The reality of dwindling energy reserves seems to have caught up with them.

"Ten plants get the go ahead"

Ed Miliband, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, announced the expansion of Britain’s nuclear power capability yesterday in the face of opposition from environmentalists and concern from consumer groups, who warned fuel bills could rise to pay for building programme.
The Energy Secretary has swept away previous planning rules which held up previous building plans for up to six years. In the future the Government hopes decisions on nuclear as well as wind farms and hundreds of electricity pylons will take a maximum of one year from proposal to go-ahead.

Sterling will be toast long before the first plant is built.

It was always going to happen, once the Petro dollar was heading for death row. Now this is THE only way out, they are drawing up contrcts with among others Cameco.

      The sites?
Right next to where the OLD AGC (Advance gas cooled) reactors are. At lest the new PWR will work, the AGC NEVER worked well & were mainly just a cover for our weapons projects.

I think if I lived in the UK, I would vote for the Conservatives. The Conservatives are correct: "Gordon Brown should have been clearing the way for atomic power plant construction 10 years ago."

Thinking back 10 years, what was Gordon Brown doing? Maybe he was meeting with Al Gore and Greenpeace back then so that Britain could freeze in the dark now? Or maybe he was thinking about selling the Bank of England's gold reserves for $240 per ounce?
