Harvest was an upstream player with some heavy oil assets that got into trouble when they purchased a refinery in Newfoundland from Vitol, a European based oil/petroleum trading company.

The theory was that by owning a refinery Harvest could "re-capture" the discount on the heavy oil they sold from their upstream operations. Unfortunately that refinery has been a dog from the day it was built, through a series of owners. Why Harvest thought they could make any money from it defies common sense.

I won't go into the details of a rather strongly worded conversation I had with a broker who cold called me about that time trying to convince me of the merits of buying Harvest units...

Canadians "in the know" are cheering the October Harvest Frankly I'm surprised they could get that much money for it.
