Thank you for the clarification. I suppose there is no way of knowing the details on these "domestic entities."

Aug. 2008 to Aug. 2009 total issuance was $2 trillion.

Since most of the issuance since Aug. 2008 is short term, the new and rapidly growing periodic issuance since Jun. 2009 represents both a rolling over of maturing previously issued short term Treasury debt plus brand new new issuance. Thus the the $2 trillion is not net cumulative. The total increase to the public debt from issuance of new Treasury debt is approximately to $1.5 trillion, but that's an estimate at this point; we're still checking our math. Of that, more than 1/3 was issued in the month of Aug. 2009.

The net increase in foreign purchases of U.S. treasury securities for the period Aug. 2008 to Aug. 2009 is $281 billion, approximately 20% of total issuance. The balance, the other 80%, was purchased by domestic entities.
so... we're buying 80% of the tbills we're putting out... and more and more of them... nice.

Obama seemed like the man to usher in 2nd world America for the p.t.b.. But who knows.

I don't quite get it. You have equity investors that are looking so far past the trough that they are bidding up stocks to valuations that couldn't be justified without hyper inflation. We have Treasury investors that are clearly thinking deflation. And we have currency investors that had they examined our ability to pay off our debts should have left the dollar a long time ago. And we have oil at a price (and very stable lately) that supports alternative energy efforts but not high enough to cause panic. All to the benefit of TPTB. With all this unexplainable good luck holding the markets together, why does anyone think they know enough to explain what will happen next? There has to be a missing factor in the equation.

I think Mr icm63 is on to something. Something will happen that will spike the dollar. Because it is good for the status quo.

I won't assume Iran will get bombed though.

Israel is already past the preparation phase for an attack on Iran. What happens now has nothing to do with what Obama wants or thinks he can control. This is now all in Bebe's hands and he is no dove.

Listening to his speech a few weeks ago at the UN was all you needed to know where this ends.

Yup I would agree this is a possible maybe even likely senario- If this is the case it would make sense that, the usual suspects are lining up behind their preferred regional hegemon, if it is determined to act unilaterally. Have to have an explanation for your electorate as to why no sanctions will be imposed on a country for a pre-emptive attack in utter breach of International law. If WMD was good enough for the USA and Britian, surely it is good enough for Israel.

Execution errors and accidents are possible? The only potential flaw in the iTulip hypothesis that I see is that the Central Banks and Governments will and can act with rationality. It seems pretty clear that they cannot. This thing is bigger than they are and they are panicked.
