Oct 01/09, the New China celebrates her 60 birth day. 60(jiǎzǐ, 甲子) is a significant number in lunar calender, which signifies a full life cycle. During this cycle, China has transformed from a third world country open to exploitation by foreign powers to the third largest economy by GDP, or second by purchasing power in the world.

It has been a long journey, mixed with tears and smile. Yet finally we are here, with pride and joy, embracing the volatile and unknown future.

Viewing all this with the backdrop of a crumbling western financial system, "free market" capitalism culture, and general perception of western superiority , what are awaiting us in the next turning point of history?

These day time videos are the PLA military parade at Beijing. All weapons systems depicted here are designed and produced in China.

Stunning and chilling. Apparently the same production crew who pulled off the Olympic opening ceremony was commissioned to handle this. Anyone who's jaw didn't drop during that is lying.



Credit must be given where credit is due. They make Disney Worlds electric light parade and American fireworks spectacles look like crap.

I went to the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. It was absolutely jawdropping. I also saw one of the most amazing shopping malls I have ever seen anywhere.

At the same time, some apartments near the Forbidden City still have dirt floors.

One must keep in mind that for the last 2,000 years, except for the last 300, the wealthiest, most technically advanced, most literate civilization on Earth was China.


Hmm, I thought this power shift would take 20 to 30 years, but now I think it might take 5 to 10.

In the parade, China shows its weapons.

Hu went to Saudi Arabia to discuss weapons and oil and paying in something other than dollars.

Pipelines are being built from the Middle East and Russian via pipelineistan to China.

Saudis want US to stay in Afghanistan and Iraq to keep Iran at bay, but it is costing the US trillions.

China likes Iran and votes for it.

Can we see the Carter Doctrine (we protect our oil supply at all costs) falling apart?


China also now has 90% of the world's metals necessary to make photovoltaic panels and electronics. The said they intend to be the "Saudi Arabia of rare earth metals". They are planning on vastly expanding wind and solar within 10 years, and the oil should start flowing in a few years...


They invented paper money 2,000 years ago, then went back to gold silver and copper around 300 years ago... I wonder if there is a link? Maybe paper currencies always crash, but in the long scheme of things, it is better?

Getting rid of feudalism in Russia and China a century ago was quite difficult and painful, and perhaps it could have been done another way, but as we are seeing, the oligarchs do not go willingly.
