  • Third Major Utility Pulls Out of Chamber of Commerce over opposition to cap-and-trade

    http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com/20...of-chamber/?hp

Exelon, a power company that operates the country’s largest fleet of nuclear reactors, announced today that it would withdraw from the United States Chamber of Commerce because of differences with the chamber’s climate policy — making it the third major utility to do so in just over a week.

Last week Pacific Gas & Electric announced plans to leave the chamber. PNM Resources, a New Mexico utility holding company, did the same shortly thereafter.

Exelon’s move was announced this morning by John W. Rowe, its chairman and chief executive, in a speech this morning at an energy-efficiency conference.

Judith Rader, an Exelon spokeswoman, confirmed that the company would not renew its membership because of the chamber’s “opposition to climate legislation.”

This is an interesting turn of events...

You can be assured, this has nothing to do with science, and everything to do with pork.

Exelon is headquartered in Chicago and has a number of Obama supporters in it's executive ranks and on the board of directors.

Owning stock in Duke Power Co, a big provider of atomic power in the South-east USA, I would benefit financially by cap-'n-trade legislation; the reason is that atomic power does NOT emit CO2, so atomic power providers like Duke Power Co. would receive cash payments from their carbon credits.

Nevertheless, I oppose cap-'n-trade legislation because such legislation is not a market solution to the energy problem; instead, cap-'n-trade creates an artificial market price for energy by driving-up energy prices.... BAD solution and DUMB, not to mention complex and artificial.

Good for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; for once, I agree with them on something. Cap-'n-trade is an unnecessary tax, and CO2 is not a major pollutant in the atmosphere. There is no science, worthy of the name, which would justify the EPA to link global warming to CO2, not to mention that there is very little global warming on Earth at all ( 1 degree F per century ).

And this intrusive federal EPA in America is a business-killer, not a friend of free enterprise, nor a friend of labour either. What a terrible bunch in Washington !!!

As a former member of a local Chamber of Commerce in the south, I think the CoCs are a bunch of crap. It's a way for other businesses to blow smoke up other businesses asses. Good ole boy stuff. Theyre all corrupt, so who cares anyways? This particular company is just pissed because theyre going to lose out on some income that they cant monopolize away from someone else.

Our entire corporate/financial system is a sham. To lend any credence to the US Chamber of Commerce and it's financial oligarchy backing is foolhardy at best.
Every interest bearing loan is mathematically impossible to pay back.
