    2.) Chou has not come out in support of nuclear power;

    3.) Chou has not supported the construction of hydro-electric dams;

    4.) Chou has instead, supported geo-thermal energy development in cities where no hot springs or guysers exist;

    5.) Chou has not come out with a major plan for America to switch to natural gas for vehicles, nor has he been outwardly in favour of putting diesels into vehicles (to use diesel fuel);

    6.) Chou has been a major supporter of windmills, tidal power, and solar power as a solution;

    7.) Chou so far has been anti-coal, anti-oil, anti-drilling, anti-oil shale, anti-tar sand, anti-coal-to-oil, and even non-favourable (or silent) on the idea of exploiting natural gas as a solution;

    8.) Chou was a supporter of carbon taxes and cap-'n-trade as a solution.
    Starving Steve,

    I agree with what you say here, though I think the jury may still be out on the whole global warming thing. I also think that the whole green energy solution (i.e. wind, solar, etc.) will hardly put a dent in the world's energy needs. The problem that the world is facing is that we are up against a rapidly declining set of finite resources. If you want to see what I mean, you need to watch the clip here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2...layer_embedded

    This guy is a professor at some college in Colorado and talks about the laws of exponential growth and its impact on resource usage and the like. Anyhow I would recommend you or anyone else to view the entire series (there are 8 segments).

    I think that those on both sides of the energy debate have missed a very major issue. With peak oil and projections (again watch the clips) that we may only have 30 to 40 years left of coal in North America. You can likely say the same about any of the resources we use whether it's nuclear, NG, or whatever. The problem is not really whether we are warming the atmosphere or whether we drill more or not. It's the fact that we will be running out of critical energy sources in very short order and no one is planning for an alternative. All I know is that I don't want to have to ride my bike to get into work everyday. I rains too much where I live.

      Re: U.S. to Impose Tariff on Tires From China - Can the USA say NO to our SugarDaddy (China)

      [quote=BK;122534]Mula - I'm no fan of the Chinese. But, can we the USA successfully engage in a trade War with the Biggest Holder of US Treasuries? $776 Billion in Treasuries /quote]

      Yes, very easily actually and it would greatly benefit the average American. Are you a coward or an American?

      Of course, if you are on the board at Goldman, Citi, or JPM then you cannot afford it.

      or if you are in Washington and in the pocket of GS, JPM then you also cannot afford it.

      or of course if you are in the top 1% of richest Americans and your wealth is thied to selling off America to China then you also cannot afford it.

      or if you have been watching Fox News spin this as anti-Obama, anti-free trade all morning then...fools fail in line.

        Mula,

        We are on the same side.

        My poor Child - has been indocrtinated by "be careful products that come from China - they are usually lower quality and occassionaly dangerous to your health.

        Sadly, Political action to prevent the moving of manufacturing jobs is a failure.

        Look at what the Minimum wage dwarfed into. Politicians pushed minimum wage to prevent textile jobs from leaving the Northeast US back in the 1920s (I think). Once the law gets enacted the Politicians find a new way to apply the law - even though they completely failed at the Cause that the law was created for.

        I'd love to see Tax incentives for US Citizens that buy American. Give my family some money back at the end of the year if we buy American - obviously - this is a form of a Tariff - but, it rewards the Americans who change their behavior and help keep jobs here.

        Its a scary world when even the Garlic that you buy at the local market is grown in China.

          Re: U.S. to Impose Tariff on Tires From China

          I couldn't view your clips from u-tube or whatever because my brother's computer doesn't have the capacity. ( I am at my bro's house in Calif. while I am serving my banishment from B.C. roads until Dec 5th. )

          Anyway, I agree with you that we can not ignore the mathematical fact of exponential growth (in population) running into the finite supply of Earth's resouces, atleast not forever.

          Rather than living in caves, I think we could all live very well--- or at minimum in "respectable poverty"--- by utilizing Alberta's 200 year supply of tar sands. We could also develop nuclear power and DE-commission atomic weapons and re-cycle the uranium from such weapons. There is no shortage of uranium from atomic warheads that could be re-cycled to use for generating electric power. ( Atoms for Peace was the old 3cent U.S. postage stamp in the 1950s, and I still believe in "atoms for peace". )

          Yes, the best long-term solution is to reduce the world's population, but that means less flocking.

          Higher standards-of-living in the world seem related to lower fertility rates. So maybe if we raise the standard-of-living in the world, people will not be flocking as much. This seems like the best and most humane long-term approach to the Earth's population growth problem.

            We can all do that without the tax incentives. Take a little time to find things made in the USA. Sadly somethings will be impossible.
