I believe the criteria were met. Interesting story, anyway. In opposition the LDP were talking about reducing Treasury holdings.

It appears the new Japanese administration is somewhat hostile to the US (rightfully so).

I just wonder how long until we enact "regime change" in Japan now. ;)

            yes I would agree.

"There are discussions on whether Japan should attach more importance to the United States or China. However, we value both China and the United States," he told a symposium held in Tokyo on Sept. 2 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

However, it will be difficult to promote the DPJ's plan to create an East Asian community with Japan-China relations as its core, while strengthening the Japan-U.S. alliance. It remains to be seen how the DPJ will steer Japan's diplomacy with the United States.

The DPJ refused to incorporate a call for the withdrawal of the MSDF vessels from the Indian Ocean in its agreement to form a coalition government with the Social Democratic Party and the People's New Party because it could tie the new administration's hands diplomatically, according to close aides to Okada.

"The amount of information, including diplomatic secrets, which Okada will obtain as foreign minister will sharply increase from the time he was an opposition legislator. I'd like him to sufficiently analyze the information and not to jump to a hasty conclusion," said a high-ranking official of the Foreign Ministry's North American Affairs Bureau.

It would be a loss to the whole itulip community imo, Mega may do cryptic headings and one line enigmas, but his posts often induce great commentary and discussion there after - he is the catalyst of many a Itulip discussion - like the catalyst he may only be missed after he is gone.

He's simply earning his moniker. Mega is like a blind date...your expectations are low so the possibility of disappointment is non-existent. When he finds gold as he occasionally does, it's a good read and he tends to draw a wide audience and bring in new posters.

While the Pearl Harbor hyperbole is a bit silly, we should all notice that this Japanese government is going to try and grow a pair. I think re-aligning themselves with Asia is smart. They've got the same demographic issues as North America and Europe. The Anglo world is not dead but we're not going to be much help to Japan if they want to grow their economy over the next 50 years.

As was quoted, "they are not a colony". It's about time they quit acting like one.

ok, so the lid comes off japan's nationalism & racism. now what?

                          Silly Japanese Nationalism and Racism

The title of the video is "How to deal with foreigners." Basically, after beating the American brute, the girl says something along the line of "Oh, that was so cool. Will you go out with me? I'm a freshman/sophomore [couldn't really hear if she said "ichinensei" or "ninensei" at such-and-such high school." To which the hero replies after after pouring water on her head: "First a foreigner, now a Japanese. I don't like stupid chicks."

I don't need to underline anything. It's too obvious. I can think of 10 non-Japanese people who will think this video is cool, just because it is Japanese.

The straight forward answer is that we don't know. I'll bypass the nationalism observation as I can't imagine a person inside a first world nation state who is not a wild nationalist. Don't make me find a tape of a bunch of local crackers screaming, USA! USA! USA!

As for the racism observation, of course. Racism is everywhere abundant. Let's not get too high on our horse until we see how we traverse the field with our first non-white President. We're very different than traditional Japan but I'm not convinced that our children are all that far removed. Give it two more generations. We're all focused on the economy and culture is changing faster than any of us realize.
