Wells Fargo exec used Malibu Colony home lost by Madoff-duped couple, neighbors say

A top bank executive was seen spending weekends and hosting parties in the $12-million beach house. The bank says it will 'conduct a thorough investigation of the allegations' by neighbors.

Stake him out face first on the beach in front of the house. Soak him down with sun block. Then have the Malibu Girls Volleyball Team practice their serves off his behind. Broadcast it live on FOX. Schedule it for 60 minutes. :p

I'm pretty sure Cheronda Guyton is a female.

        Yup. From http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_283031.html
Residents in the gated community told the Los Angeles Times that a woman they believe was Cheronda Guyton took up occupancy at the home in May. Residents said they obtained Guyton's name from the community's guards, who had issued her a homeowner's parking pass.

Residents also wrote down the license plate number of a 2007 Volvo sport-utility vehicle they say was parked in the home's garage. A check of state motor vehicle license plates by the Times found the vehicle was registered to Guyton.

Guyton is a Wells Fargo senior vice president responsible for foreclosed commercial properties, resident Phillip Roman said.

"It's outrageous to take over a property like that, not make it available and then put someone from the bank in it," said Roman, who lives a few homes away from the property.

Residents said Guyton, along with her husband and two children, often hosted guests at the home, including a large party the last weekend of August. Malibu Colony is about 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

In the movie Wall Street, Martin Sheen screams at his son something about not raising him to judge a man by the size of his wallet. I know you were only kidding, but there is a certain truth to the idea of what defines "betters."

The couple signed the property over to Wells Fargo last spring, and the bank subsequently denied requests to show the house to prospective buyers, Dazzan-Palmer said.

The bank's agreement with the prior owner required it to keep the home – a 3,800-square-foot, two-story structure built in the early 1990s – off the market for a period of time, Wells Fargo said in the statement. The bank said it planned to list the property for sale soon.
Some out of the ordinary side notes to this story. The mortgagors apparently gave Wells a deed in lieu with some sort of understanding that the property would not be immediately listed.

So, given that, what is an REO exec to do? Party!!!!

In poor taste? Inappropriate? Only if it hits the media... oops.

Should she need one, the exec should hire this writer as her lawyer.

While it may be an eyebrow raising occasion, is it not possible that Cheronda Guyton - as a representative of Wells Fargo - was actually fulfilling her fiduciary duty? A CNN photo gallery of bank abandoned homes shows overgrown weeds, crumbling structures, and overall eyesores that drive home prices down. Moreover, finding buyers, who qualify for a $12 million loan, is not as easy as it might have been a few years ago. It is conceivable that -- while putting the home into use might have been off-putting to neighbors - this was actually keeping it in working order for Wells Fargo.

The writer has a great imagination. If that was true it would be the first time a banker was keeping a house in "working order." Also that can be accomplished in other ways without having a party. Here is an interesting question. What if someone got hurt at a party there. Can we assume the homeowners insurance would pay for any injuries.

Hence my suggestion that she hire the writer as her lawyer. If the glove does not fit you must acquit. I lived in LA too long to not have a cynical appreciation for a lie well told. After all, LA is a lie well told. What else could you expect from the place?

Just heard from my neighbor who is a private client manager for Wells Fargo that Guyton has been sent packing (i.e. fired) over this. Just thought I would share the news.

Yeah, I believe it. the writing was on the wall. Classic case of conflict of interest. She probably thought she was doing WF a favor since unoccupied properties are at high risk of loss. Party hardy.

Gonna be tough for her to land a new gig.
