U.S. donors under the age of 45 have increased donations 3% to 4% compared to 18 months ago in an effort to help their charities during the downturn. Just as wealthy Americans younger than 45 tend to give more than those who are older, women also tend to give more than men do. According to the report, women in the U.S. donate 3.5% of their investable assets--almost double the 1.8% donated by the wealthy U.S. male. As women control a growing amount of wealth, their impact on philanthropy is bound to grow more forceful.
