Re: Iran "is now either very near or in possession" nuclear weapon
To put things in perspective:
If a joint foreign mission successfully undermined my democratically elected government and installed a dictatorial puppet;
If a foreign led embargo strangled the life out of my country's economy after a popular uprising deposing the aforementioned dictator;
If foreign nations confiscated my nation's assets overseas;
If a neighbouring nation invaded my country and we were punished by the international community for defending ourselves;
If weapons of mass destruction were used against my country and no one cared even when we put them on a plane to Switzerland for a dog and pony show;
If a foreign nation provided JUST enough arms via a covert conduit to "increase the bleed" on both sides of one of the 20th century's most costly conflicts, but intentionally not enough for my country to achieve strategic advantage;
If a foreign nation shot down an airliner filled with my fellow citizens giving the commander a medal instead of issuing an apology;
If a foreign nation invaded two of the nations bordering my own;
yeah...I might be interested in acquiring the same "get out of jail free" card that has worked so well for North Korea, Pakistan, and Israel.
What's the worst that can happen?
Fold your hand and pull a Qaddafi!
That will make all the nasty unmentionable "war by terrorist proxy" committed by Iran over the last 30 years just vanish like magic.....and you get a lifetime "get out of jail free" card in the EU to drive drunk, shoot guns, and beat up women like Qaddafi's kids.
Iran's no innocent.....especially with it's many known and relatively unknown asymmetric warfare incidents throughout the world since 79.
But even for a moderate Iranian......a nuke armed Iran is compelling...as long as the people managing "the football" can be trusted.
Iran has a 30 year history of aggressive and often militant diplomacy with the US where it has achieved far more victory than defeat.
Iran is probably the most capable adversary the US has faced since Vietnam....it's win/win if handled even poorly by Iran
