i think it is healthy to remind yourself that there will always be people who have it worse then you have it. might make you a little more thankful for what you have.

moreover these stories serve as a warning to always keep your guard up.

I like the stories Don, keep em coming. It's easy to forget with all the numbers and technical analysis that there are real people out there affected by all of this. Where's the humanity people?

I understand rjwjr's point that an endless litany of sob stories is not productive. But I don't read these stories that way. They hit home the fact that this recession is different. Its not just the usual low skilled people losing their jobs. Or one particular sector. When I read these I think " There but for the grace of God go I". I think if every American read these stories and realized it could really be them too, we'd see a lot more being done to stop this crap from happening again.
