    Re: machine gun marc

We all work together in "harmoneous diversity" toward our common goal of prosperity and peace in the world. So what is wrong with China's model?

When I watch an orchestra play and generate beautiful music, I think of China's model of economics.

So why not a move away from the American model of unregulated capitalism: away from the old model of "winner-take-all", "trickle-up economics", and "greed is good"?

SS, I assume that you don't mean that literally, but want to use this analogy to make the point that you admire the Chinese model. Very well, but when I extend the analogy a little, while the orchestra is playing beautiful music, it is also producing massive pollutants to the local and global environment, human rights abuses, and rampant violations of property rights. This ugly sideshow is so distracting that it is difficult to hear the music, let alone admire the performance.

MM, the narrator for the Falun DaFa video stated early on that this was a traditional Chinese practice. FWIW, some of the practice is based on ancient practices from Buddhism and Taoism, but it is a modern invention (1992).

Chinese officials feared that the movement was a cult. The turning point was when the sun rose on the morning of April 25, 1999, residents of Zhong Nan Hai, the Central Government Compound, in Beijing, found that 10,000 practitioners had surrounded the compound and were standing silently facing the compound. The officials saw the movement as a political threat, and determined to stamp it out. The Chinese have a saying, "stop little things before they become big things."

I have posted my remarks more to generate a discussion than to say that I would agree with everything China does.

Fair to say that I admire the progress that China has made toward democracy, and I admire the economic power-house that China has become. I admire the wise and sensible leadership in Beijing now.

I watch the CCTV Ch. 9 (English) News Hour programme (aired 9PM-10PM PDT, nightly) to learn more about China and to find-out about what is really happening around the world. I find their news coverage to be far superior to the coverage on BBC or the coverage on FOX.
