Revolutions always end in a nightmare (which turns out to be worse than the evil they were meant to remedy). Find me one in the last two centuries that ended well.

Revolutions are used to overthrow the current system. Sometimes, to change the system, you need to destroy the system and the country first. This is what a revolution does - destroy the system.

That was the case of the Chinese revolution of 1911 that overthrew 400 years of Manchurian monarchy rule. The aftermath was 60 years of chaos which may not have been be worst than Manchurian rule.

For all the evil, the US doesn't need a revolution to change the system - revolutions are reserved for autocratic or single party nations that cannot be dislodged by vote or by civil unrest.

US families turn to food stamps as wages drop

"40 per cent of the families now on food stamps have “earned income”, up from 25 per cent two years ago. The agriculture department, which runs the programme, attributes this rise to workers having their hours cut back."

"Less attention has been paid to those still in the workforce, whose incomes are also being squeezed. The average working week is now about 33 hours, the lowest on record, while the number forced to work part-time because they cannot find full-time work has risen more than 50 per cent in the past year to a record 8.8m."

Why in the world would a foreigner, not electing to immigrate to the US, want a self-absorbed, narcissistic, materialistic and consumption-obsessed American woman for a wife?

Women in this country are many things. I wouldn't say narcissistic is one of them.

According to David Blanchflower, 36% of young blacks in the US are unemployed. I am surprised there isn't a revolution already... When you have nothing to lose, you revolt.

I know this is going to sound racist because you don't know me very well, but please recognize that my comment is based on experience and observation, not on a skin-color sterotype...If a culture is not motivated enough to work a basic job, it doesn't surprise me that this same culture isn't motivated enough to revolt.

Even when unemployment was very low and we, as a significant employer in our community, were desperate for employees in 2005-2007, we received very, very few applications from the black community. We even toyed with the ideas of advertising in the primarily black neighborhood and/or running a private shuttle for anyone that lacked transportation, but was interested in work (we never acted on either of these ideas, but we remained dumbfounded as to why we didn't receive more applications from black individuals). On the flip side, the majority of our work force is made-up of very hard working young men and women of hispanic heritage. This culture is an inspiring combination of energy and optimism with a work ethic and respect for authority that is admirable and desirable to any employer.

The black community doesn't need a revolt (that's more of the same old "someone else is to blame" mentality), they need leadership and guidance. Not the hurtful guidance from Jesse Jackson, Marion Barry, Cynthia McKinney, Ray Nagin, athletes, or rappers, but the productive guidance from Thomas Sowell, Condoleeza Rice, Walter Williams and other intelligent, productive, successful role models. They need to shed the veil of blame and reach the tipping point of culture change.

I refuse to believe that there is an inherent or physical reason why test scores, employment, or any other indicator of achievement for black individuals should lag behind the results of any other race. I blame the culture and the lack of proper leadership, not the skin color.

Yeah, because working for a fear-mongering, imperialistic, war obsessed administration serving as the "token black female" in order to further these goals is what Im sure alot of young black people strive for...

Naked Capitalism has posted an article this morning noting that unemployment may be as high as 20%.

                              http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2009/...-about-it.html

"But those in the know argue that the real rate is actually even higher than the U-6 figures.

"For example, Paul Craig Roberts - former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and former editor of the Wall Street Journal - and economist John Williams both said in December 2008 that - if the unemployment rate was calculated as it was during the Great Depression - the December 2008 unemployment figure would actually have been 17.5%.
Williams says that unemployment figures for July 2009 rose to 20.6%."

                              Sounds familiar, eh?

This is one of the most excellent articles I've read in a long time. It seems to hit on many iTulip themes. Maybe FRED could put an iTulip spin on it?
