    ...are pre-mature.

I'd offer my condolences to a naturally disappointed Mega, but they wouldn't be sincere.
Truck demand stirs deep in the heart of Texas
    Fri Sep 4, 2009 3:58pm EDT

DESOTO, Texas (Reuters) - Deep in the heart of Texas, a Chevy dealership is almost empty of super-sized trucks and full of promise for the battered U.S. auto industry.

"Two months ago I had 80 of these, and now I only have a handful," dealer Butch Watson said as he pointed to a few extended cab Silverado pickup trucks hulking in one corner of his lot near Dallas...

..."Our pick-up sales are up 18 percent in the first eight months of this year," said Watson, whose Chuck Fairbanks Chevrolet is one of the largest dealerships in north Texas...

..."The volume and where the recovery is going to come is in pickup trucks." Merkle said. "Pickup trucks are not dead. They are far from dead in this country."...

And for those that think this is just a Cash-for-Clunkers phenomenon, looks like the venerable F150 is back in fashion despite the still soft market north of the 49th:
Canadian car, truck sales fall in August

Last Updated: Tuesday, September 1, 2009

...Dennis DesRosiers, who runs his own consultancy, said Canadians bought slightly more than 135,000 cars and trucks in August, a drop of 7.9 per cent compared with August 2008...

Ford sold more cars and trucks in Canada than the company did for the same month in 2008, 22,000 units, up seven per cent.

Interestingly, DesRosiers said, Canadians bought 15 per cent fewer cars in August versus a year ago while sales of more fuel-intensive light trucks rose 1.6 per cent comparing the same two months.

"Isn't everybody supposed to buy one of those small, fuel-efficient vehicles these days?" he asked rhetorically.
