I'd say more like "get everyone's cash."

A few less foolish souls may have escaped with a few dollars,
but the vast majority of dollars will be in the hands of a few.

An alternative - at the bottom buy alot of stuff cheap, then reinflate.

The key to my very non-iTulip conclusions above is noticing that a few who seem to have quite a bit of control over the American stock markets, Fed, Treasury, big banks, regulatory agencies, and Congress seem to have ended up with most of the dollars, and there is no asset class other than Treasuries and dollars that can hold the volume of money we're talking about here.

Therefore dollars will not collapse anytime soon. Rather they will suck up what remaining dollars they can, depress prices of stocks and real estate (increasing the value of the dollar), and then go on a buying spree.

Hattip to youtube poster Growby10 for this weird theory.

The Fed? A plan? You have to be kidding . They have been trying to devalue by 30% for 10 months and haven't succeeded.

Hm, looks like the devaluation is working to me.

With so many in the U.S. 'on the edge' already, hysterical with paranoia over a health plan causing socialism, hysterical about socialism in general, hysterical about Obama's citizenship status, hysterical with a fantasy about Obama's racism toward whites, and these same people buying guns and ammo like crazy, screaming and shouting red-faced and angry, I wonder if they wouldn't see a bank holiday and sudden devaluation as a wee too risky politically at this point? Also, I think the Fed these days is politically sensitive to making moves that would cause so much political damage to an incumbent so early in his term. On top of that, they're under a lot of political scrutiny themselves these days.

Not sure why this is so non-itulipy?

I had what amounts to a deflationary crash in my scenario. Not necessarily spiraling unstoppable (except by the greatest war in human history) deflation, but still a whole lot more "disinflation" than we've had up to this point, before the Fed and major banks actually flood the general economy with surplus "inflationary" dollars.

You're exactly right. I don't think that people are willing to accept "It would be worse if we did nothing" as an excuse from politicians any more. Hopefully we've learned our lesson from all the other times gov't has told us that.
