July and August are the weakest months for gold. Wouldn't be surprised to see 850 again.

Cool - time to buy more!

Actually, I may have to rethink my basic conspiratorial position. Maybe I won't need to photoshop an image of a cow with a tin foil hat for my iTulip avatar.

Perhaps over the last century human civilization has already changed
          • from a world of several competing nations, each mostly self sufficient (with common interests taking a secondary role and international World Wars a devastating risk),
          • to a world wide economy (with regional differences taking a secondary role.)

Some secondary nations and regions are still left out or used and abused for their wealth. But the major nations have been intentionally and relentlessly bound by common economic interests.

In this case, many examples from history are less than helpful. Recent examples of "first world" nations in economic difficulty are more useful, though scarce. In a few more years our history books will have many more good examples of such -- us here and now .

The New World Order that Alex Jones fans (look for the cow in his crowds occassionally :rolleyes rail against is already here. Get used to it.

This is not just "All One Market" as they've been saying over at Elliott Wave (and I presume elsewhere.) It's "All One World" (if one rudely ignores the bottom three billion people.)

From this viewpoint, we have less risk of a iTulip POOM serious decline in the dollars exchange rate against other major currencies. We do have a good chance of migrating to a basket of major currencies for an international currency basis. But this doesn't imply that gold goes to $5000 and the dollar is flushed down the toilet.

The experiences of Great Britain and Japan perhaps serve as the best guide history can provide the now profligate Americans. After a bit of down sizing, which some of us Americans will take less gracefully than others, life will go on, a bit less extravagantly.
Most folks are good; a few aren't.

Yep. Isn't it time for everyone to hit the beach or fire up the barbie, crack a beer and chill out. I'm staying cool in the heat of summer by spending the afternoons installing below grade plumbing for the bunker. Beats the hell out of frying on the roof installing shingles, which is what I spent most of the last 2 months doing.

Gold price? Who cares. Somebody post something if it breaks below $700... I might want to buy some more...

MEGA, do you realize you just issued another buy signal? Check your track record for every time you post it is getting killed...

The sentiment for gold has been trending down since the Fall last year despite the price oscillating within 4-10% of all time high. The money are simply chasing stocks and currencies with leverage without the regard for the Sudden Stop.

I find myself bored following Gold price action for the past 2 months. I have no desire to buy or speculate at the moment, which has been a good contrary indicator since 2006. ;)

Gold is coming off a fear-induced overvaluation spike. Recall that while most other commodities tanked severely (e.g. oil down 75%), gold prices softened much more moderately. This is because of the monetary aspect of gold. But as fear subsides, the monetary premium is ebbing, too. So as long as other commodity prices remain where they are and the crisis atmosphere remains in abeyance, gold will fall a bit more.

The following chart makes this clear. It is gold, not in terms of dollars, but in terms of a basket of commodities per the Dow Jones UBS spot commodity index. You can see how gold spiked during the crisis, and how it is now returning to its historical relationship with commodities as a whole.

Keep in mind that as other commodity prices rise (I should say as the value of the dollar falls - commodities haven't done much of anything), we can expect gold to as well, even absent the flight-to-safety kicker. Except for during the crisis, gold tracked the commodity index very well all through its spectacular rise this decade.

Gold & Gold Stocks Setting Up for a Strong Second Half? by Chris Puplava
                            http://www.financialsense.com/Market...2009/0729.html

Main arguments as summarized by section titles:
                            - Gold Technical Indicators Oversold
                            - Seasonal Pattern
                            - Gold Stock Breadth is Bullish
                            - The USD, Setting Up for Retest of the 2008 Lows?

                            ....

"Perhaps the greatest key to the next move in both gold and precious metals is the USD Index. A break below 78 would signal a likely powerful move in precious metals while a break above the June highs of 81.38 would signal that precious metals are likely to further correct as the USD would be signaling its declining trend since March is over, with a potential renewed advance higher. With the declining trend line in the USD Index approaching the key 78 level, we may not have long to find out whether the USD is going to continue to head south with precious metals likely advancing, or the opposite. Resolution either way will be signaling whether gold and gold stocks have a bullish second half of the year run, or further consolidation."

Floor traders are sweeping off all the amateurs before getting gold on its next leg up. I thought it was going to take hold today but it just missed my window. I'm not long yet but I'm locked, loaded and my finger is on the trigger.
