Yes, but the amount of money destroyed has been remarkable and more than all the budget deficits in the world.

Another chart and picture that, to the best of my knowledge, no one else has even attempted.

What about taxes? Neither a good, a service, nor an asset. And certain to go up.

Wouldn't it be funny if Wall St. did something useful, and created a taxes ETF? ;)

No, nominal and unadjusted for any inflation.

from a regular guy in the u.s. I have a single family home two old cars wife and two young kids. My wife stays home to take care of the kids.

I'm feeling squeezed. I own my home, so I'm out of the home price inflation/deflation game, but it seems like the non-discretionary inelastic items are creeping up. I am an IT engineer. I feel lucky to have a job, but my wages since 2000 are stagnant. Even a low inflation of 2% - 3% over a decade can really hurt if your wages are stagnant.

Energy costs up, food costs up, medicine really up. taxes (not in any inflation measure, but must be paid first) up. Bush tax cuts helped, but they are about to expire, state and local taxes up big. education up. Transportation up. Insurance up. The only staple of life that is down or stable is clothing. Thank goodness for wal-mart and second hand stores.

Yeah electronics and gadgets are down, but most are not necessary, also as in a previous thread appliances don't last like they used to either.

10 years ago I thought that if I had my house and cars paid for, I'd be set. Now I'm buying my clothes and toys at a second hand store to make ends meet. A fancy dinner is at boston market.
