  • MSM News vs Comedy Central.

Well, it’s official: with Walter Cronkite gone, Jon Stewart is America’s “most trusted newscaster.” Comedy Central wins.

Amazing. Perhaps not the most scientific or broadest of polls, but it's amazing that a comedy show with that format would even be considered.

Yesterday he dropped his face into a cream pie while reporting the "news". Didn't Cronkite ever do that?

Its comedic satire, but its fairly well researched satire (well, at least better than what the CNBC/FOX news crowd do), so it unintentionally does a better job informing people than what the "proper" news channels do. To put it another way, its not so much that TDS is so good, its that CNBC/FOX are so bad that has caused this to happen.

Yes, MSM is that bad that TDS is considered a good news source... Dont be fooled though; Jon stewart is very smart... His analysis skills are amazing... Most of the time, i find more clear information from his show than i ever could off CNN, he tends to put things in perspective via his broadcast that i have yet to see from major news networks.... He gets to the meat of a story.

I think Brian Ross on No. 2 isn't bad, but where is Seymore Hersh? edit: probably because he isn't a newscaster, but I would like to see a question on journalists.

I'm surprised that people like Cronkite and Ted Turner are "disgusted" by the media even though they are part of the establishment/elite.

"I think it is absolutely essential in a democracy to have competition in the media, a lot of competition, and we seem to be moving away from that," Cronkite told me the last time we spoke about media issues.

          Ted Turner

He’s agreed to chat for a few hours on a recent Monday, ostensibly about the restaurant business. But with Turner, the conversation always takes unexpected turns. Everything from the world’s collapsing fisheries to his own mortality is on the table.

On Headline News: “Headline News used to be straight news anytime you wanted it. It’s unwatchable now. It’s heartbreaking.”

On celebrity news: “The media are too busy with Michael Jackson. The greatest fear we could possibly have today is an uninformed electorate. That is what really scares me.”

Speaking on PBS's Charlie Rose program on Tuesday, April 1, Turner stated plainly that next to nuclear disarmament the most pressing world concern is "global climate change" - which he said is caused by too many people. "We're too many people. That's why we have global warming," explained Turner when Rose questioned his comment that we need to "stabilize the population."
