So, if you add up all the unemployed, retired, government workers, disabled, and people collecting PA then how many are left actually working?

the new automated tellers take cash and checks. Less tellers, more profit. Just think of all the gains in "productivity" our digital age is yet to add.

So why worry about jobs? Soon Gen x can make a living changing boomer bed pans. Plus, if you are one of the lucky working people, the government will tax you to pay for the food, housing and in some places the cell phones of the poor.

I have to admit the new BoA ATmachines are impressive. They're also advertising a $100 giveaway to anyone that opens a new account and uses it to pay two bills online.

            ShadowStats last updated July 13th:

The SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated "discouraged workers" defined away during the Clinton Administration added to the existing BLS estimates of level U-6 unemployment.

              link to the interactive map.

According to their construction of "U6-ish" by state, Oregon currently has the highest at 23%, followed by Michigan and Rhode Island 22%, California and South Carolina 20%, and so on. As it says on the map, these could all be off by a few percentage points up or down.

Another optimistic state by state itulip update would be nice.

Take California for example. The July 2008 forecast was unemployment peaking at 10%. The January 2009 update (link below) said 12%.
              Jobs crash arrives on schedule

As of May 2009 the California U3 is 11.5%.
