      I see on the news today that Geitner is in the GCC convincing the Arabs not to leave the dollar for oil trades.

      His carrot, apparently, is that he is telling them that the US is open to their investments.

      Remember the Dubai Ports fiasco and the CNOOC deal? Well, forget about that. Those were mistakes. Now, that the US is desperate, the market is open again to SWF investment.

      This should give the dollar some breathing room.

        I'm sorry, but the article does not say the $ is saved, far from it, it speculates that there is a potential for a dislocation.
        "The combination of a shattered banking system, huge trade imbalances and China's massive reserve hoard threatens a convulsion. The role of the dollar may not have been a leading cause of these problems but it could well be a leading casualty."
        Not that anyone would listen, but if I were China, I would quietly buy Gold.
