  • G8 agrees steep cuts in greenhouse gases (increase in global average temp ought not to exceed 2 °C)

    L'AQUILA, Italy, July 8 (AFP) Jul 08, 2009
G8 leaders agreed Wednesday to bear the brunt of steep global cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, calling on a broader bloc of developed countries to reduce pollution by 80 percent by 2050.

The aim, agreed at a G8 summit in the central Italian town of L'Aquila, is to cut overall world emissions by 50 percent in order to limit global warming to no more than two degrees Celsius, a declaration said.

Despite G8 backing for a 50 percent cut in emissions globally, a broader group of major polluters, including many developing countries such as China and India, dropped a pledge earlier to halve their pollution by 2050.

"We recognise the broad scientific view that the increase in global average temperature above pre-industrial levels ought not to exceed two degrees Celsius," the G8 leaders said.

Power grab, NWO, whatever you want to call it, this level of "self-sacrificing" global cooperation does not bode well for the common folk.

Possibly this represents aspirational overreach by the political elite, who do not in fact wield adequate power to see the policy through in the face of popular discontent. I'll be a believer -- and modify my world view accordingly -- when I see this initiative translated into effective action.

I'll agree with that. This is grandstanding that will accomplish nothing other than a politician looking in a mirror and giving himself a reason to have a smirk on his face.

            perhaps.
let us hope and pray that they do not have or obtain adequate power

one man's effective action is another's tyranny I would suppose - it all comes down to how it is sold e.g., through fear as in the bene gov will save you and guilt as in "shame on you for disagreeing with the experts and holding up 'progress'

push enough buttons and throw enough at the wall, fronting issues such as fighting global terrorism, climate change, drugs etc, and overwhelm, something is bound to stick

Its seems like they must have found a book that said if you lower the CO2 by 50% the planet will respond by keeping temperature within 2 degrees. If they have that deep of an understanding of how a complex and dynamic enviornmental system works on a planetary and universal level to make this bold policy statement why do we even have an energy problem they should be able to engineer anything. I feel like they are CO2 targeting I hope they have better luck with that then the FED has with inflation targeting.
The worst is what if CO2 levels go down a little and temperatures stay about the same.
