What is that avatar? This culturally deprived old cow does not recognize it .
Eh...inside joke to myself. Given the 666 tag, figured some kind of Eye of Sauron or the like (probably a reptile eye for this) would be apropos.
And since I hear the question coming.....
Long time ago, in an internet far, far away mere mortal internet users used a primitive form of technology called dialup. Even worse, they were forced to transact with a Hydra monster under the bizarre name of AOL.
This particular user had no love for the monster, but was ordered to transact with it because at the time he did much international travel and the Hydra was the only one with connections in all those places (the advantage of being a hydra!)
Anyways, the Hydra asked for a nom-de-plume to be used and suggested the rather innoculous sounding jpatter742. This was deemed unacceptable and many, many attempts to pick a fairer-seeming name ensued. None were considered acceptable.
Finally, after many-fold vain attempts, a cry echoed across the land: "AOL is a work of the devil! *I'll* give you an appropriate name!"
And thus, in a fit of pique "jpatter666" was entered, in my dementia thinking that since jpatter742 had been offered, this name was already taken and would be rejected.
Ahem....accepted.
In time I came to recognize that this name was *never* used and made for an easy login name anywhere. I've no superstitions about it (although my wife and mom aren't too fond I've got to admit). So, if you see the name, is probably me.
But still thinking about that herd of chickens avatar....
$USD short squeeze, nothing to get excited about
(unless you are one of those being squeezed, of course).
With 97% USD bearish sentiment, a real short squeeze would send the USD skyrocketing. In reality, there simply are not enough bulls to perform a short squeeze. There are, however, plenty of bears available to squeeze what's left of the bulls and, once they're exhausted, where is the USDX likely to go?
What happens to gold the day after a surprise devaluation of the dollar?
I imagine that many of us holding gold will be delighted that it is now worth say twice as much and want to cash in on some of that gain in whatever are the newly devalued dollars.
About ten minutes later, the price of gold crashes to say half what it was.:mad: Too many sellers.

Oops.
Quite possible. But I vaguely remember some EJ posting (or maybe an interview) some time back about how there was the currency depreciation, lots of people sold their commodities/PMs, were happy, much rejoicing and congratulations.
And then a few months later the bottom *really* fell out.
I've got my trading position and my core holdings which would only be sold under the deepest of duress.
