Re: T. Boone Pickens Calls Off Massive Texas Wind Farm

A local university here in South Florida (Florida Atlantic University) has been working on such a concept.

In theory it seems simple: mount some turbines on the sea floor and let the 24/7 Gulfstream current spin them to provide immense amounts of power.

It seems simple enough but given they have been working on it for years, the engineering hurdles must be enormous.

Your friend probably wouldn't know and neither do I. I do know that the membranes would probably run at no less than a 4-1 ratio and would be very, very costly. These membranes would probably not be able to be cleaned(as opposed to when they are clogged by hard water) or salvaged.

I would like to know what the cost of water are right now in the arab nations. In los angeles, a cubic foot of water(748 gallons) is around $4.00 with both sewage and usage.
