  • House passes cap and trade energy bill

    Keep costs low, YEAH RIGHT!

Glad to see that they gave the polluters 85% of the permits for (get this) FREE!

    WASHINGTON
The House of Representatives on Friday voted by a narrow 219 to 212 to approve a hotly contested energy bill intended to cap US greenhouse gas emissions.

The legislation still has a long road to travel before it becomes law. But the House vote was a crucial victory for President Obama on one of his legislative priorities, and may give the White House political momentum as it pushes lawmakers for passage of another big item on its agenda, healthcare reform.

Obama himself called recalcitrant members on Friday as the bill’s fate hang in the balance. The White House insists that the bill will spur the growth of green jobs and make the US a leader on world climate change.

The House bill “contains provisions to protect consumers, keep costs low, help sensitive industries transition to a clean energy economy and promote domestic emission reduction efforts,” the White House said in a statement of support for the legislation.

It will be interesting to see how the stock market takes this on Monday - Probably will fly through the senate.

And they said Housing was your best investment ??????

I have seen it all before - sugar coat your new taxes lads. This is an infinite grab for taxing living in a carbon based world. And by the way it is open ended because your choice is to pay or starve freezing in the dark.
The founder of Netscape would call it the "new new thing".
In the end the wealthy and connected will take it all using this "new" industry to siphon what they need.

Well said through your link "follow in $$$$"

Imagine this senerio - Gain control of a polluting but essential industry -Then through market power, raise prices. You now have a right to pollute more by paying for it and charge more again to pay for it. Question ? Is buying a carbon credit tax deductible as an input - just one of the questions not addressed to date. This is lunacy as the wealthy can pay to pollute by charging J6p for it and it affects everything you see/buy/ drive/ touch/turn or consume.
Who wins???- Well the only people I can see win, are the people who charge margins but produce nothing (Governments banks /traders come to mind)
Derivitate on that for a while.

The really confusing thing is that we are clearing forests (CO2 absorbing) by slash and burn at rate of 5 football fields a minute around the world releasing carbon. But again, instead of doing something smart we hand it over to money gods to trade life for margin. This is sicko

The right to Tax Life ?? How much would you pay to live -Everything I bet.
But it will start out on a "TEASER RATE" and once your in they have you forever. It took 40 years to get your wife working full time to afford the "dream" now 40 years in the future your kids will have to work as well just to keep warm and feed.
In reality four abundant things provide "base load" power
            Coal
            Natural gas
            Nuclear
Tidal flow(I know, never heard of it)
The last one every 6 hrs one way then the other, at different times at different places. 800 X more powerful than wind and so reliable you can set tide charts 100years in the future. Never been tried you say - well build the turbines. I swear no one "thinks" in this world - with proper technical/ engineering knowledge you have limitless power from nature that has zero pollutants at source.

And if i'm allowed one using some of my input (and it works frigging great) shrouded turbines

Id like to see one or a thousand in the Solway passage - Whitsunday Islands Queensland where the tidal flows are 11 m/sec at surface to 200 meters down.

Thru significant improvement in tidal power technology over time, tidal power could be improved according to your tidal power link.

I am NOT into hope or faith, thank you. Energy proposals that are not fully workable immediately are meaningless and costly.

Nuclear is the best solution. Natural gas which is in HUGE surplus in North America is workable too. There is no shortage of coal for power plants, too. And hydro-electric power is a proven solution, as well.

Finally, while we all starve and suffer with high energy costs and a high cost of living, the U.S. House passed the ridiculous Cap-and-Trade at 3AM EDT. So, next election, we will boot OUT Nancy Pelosi..... OUT she goes, and good riddance (sp?)!

And a question for the greenies in British Columbia: Since tidal power has been installed around Victoria, why does BC sometimes have to import energy from the U.S. to keep its lights on?

This will be the next "bubble" with companies like Goldman Sucks buying and selling carbon credits and creating packages to sell to hedge funds and insurance companies using our tax money to do it. Watch out UK and Europe and the rest of the world, this will come your way soon , far to much money involved not to.
