While a central bank can impose positive or negative rates on non-physical assets, transmitting those rates to physical currency is a huge challenge. Sapiens posted something about this a while back, that is Central Banks wanting the cashless.

Here in the USA and I assume elsewhere, VISA has been running television commercials for a couple of years in which cash buyers in line at a mall or whatever are basically portrayed as child molesting Satan worshippers. That message is embedded deep within our collective television mindset.

I'm a throwback - counting out exact change whenever possible.

The reference to Satan in the above context is an interesting one when you recollect what the bible has to say on a cashless society :eek:
